Rainmaker, The

Rudy Baylor (Matt Damon) is a fresh law school graduate who aspires to be a "rainmaker". He finds work in a law firm, owned by Bruiser Stone (Mickey Rourke). Bruiser is a lawyer with the Memphis underworld connections and owns several investments in topless bars. Rudy teams up with his para-lawyer assistant, Deck Schiflett (Danny DeVito), and goes round chasing ambulances.

Rudy comes across a case, where a boy dying of leukemia has been denied medical care benefits. Rudy, being the idealistic and naive lawyer, believe in his fight for his client, Dot Black (Mary Kay Place), and sets out to expose the multimillion dollar insurance scam by the company, Great Benefit, that has been making fortunes by ripping off the poor and middle-working class people. He is up against a team of high-powered attorneys, led by Leo F.Drummond (Jon Voight).

Along the way, Rudy also meets a young battered wife, Kelly Riker (Claire Danes), and tries to help her divorce her husband, and eventually became romantically involved with her.
